Description:

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is becoming a widely used tool in the construction industry. As the use of Design-Build project delivery methods continues to increase, it is critical that electrical contractors become fluent with BIM technology and software. Professors Thomas Korman and Lonny Simonian will be discussing about how BIM can bring efficiency to the current practice of daily operations, understanding important criteria for choosing and implementing BIM solutions, learning how BIM can facilitate sustainable practices and how BIM can provide opportunities for new services. The “bottom-line” is that Electrical Contractors are using BIM. If you are not using BIM you run the risk of getting left behind.
Learning Outcomes: The audience will learn - Market sectors and project delivery methods where BIM is used, Electrical systems and types of equipment/devices modeled, Design and clash detection software, Cost and time savings attributable to using BIM, How prefabrication is enhanced using BIM. Additionally, the audience will be exposed to some of the legal issues associated with BIM: - Who owns the BIM model and data, How are risks shared amongst all project participants, Is privacy of contract compromised by reliance of data from other parties, How professional design responsibility is affected, The effect upon copyrighted information and documentation within the model.
