Description:
Dr. David Michaels, Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health continues to pursue his “back-to-basics” strategy. Increased inspections, larger fines and new regulations are OSHA’s mantra. His ultimate goal is the demand for a system approach to safety through an Injury and Illness Prevention Program (I2P2) standard. Electrical contractors need to know how all this will affect them.
This session will provide insight to OSHA enforcement activity from the most frequently cited standards in electrical construction and emphasis programs through OSHA’s new formula for penalty calculation. It will also review pending regulations, including the I2P2, offering insight into the future of safety under the current administration. Suggestions will be given on how to deal with OSHA’s draconian methods and the many changes.
Learning Outcomes: Identify OSHA changes and how they affect electrical construction
Describe actions that can be taken to avoid OSHA citations and improve safety performance
Speaker Bio:
Joe O’Connor
Mr. O’Connor is a President of INTEC. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Scranton and M.S.T. Degree from the State University of New York. He is an authorized OSHA Train-the-Trainer and has served on various workgroups for OSHA's Advisory Committee for Construction Safety and Health. The written programs and training materials he has developed are used by a number of different trade associations and their members including the National Electrical Contractors Associations (NECA). Among these publications are the NECA NFPA 70E Lockout/Tagout Manual and PPE Selector. But, the most significant NECA resources he is a part of is the NECA eSafetyLine.
Please note that every state handles licensure and continuing education credits differently. To avoid confusion, NECA strongly recommends you check with your state authority whether they will grant these CEUs for management education programs held at NECA 2011 San Diego.
